The Department of Tourism issued permits to 68 climbers from 7 groups to climb Mt Kangchenjunga. Forty-seven climbers have reached the base camp to climb the Kangchenjunga. This season, so many climbers have reached the base camp at once to climb Kangchenjunga.
Climbers reach Kanchenjunga base camp via the southern and northern routes. Kalpana Tammaden, the tourism assistant at the Tapethok check post of the Kangchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council, said that 36 climbers reached the Kangchenjunga base camp via the southern route. She said that five people from India, one from the USA, three from Germany, two from Romania, three from Australia, three from the Netherlands, and two from Canada have reached the base camp via this route.
Suryaman Rai, a tourism assistant at the Yamphudin checkpoint, said that six climbers from Romania and five from the United Kingdom had reached the base camp via the northern route. Some climbers reached by helicopter. Some climbers are still on the way to base camp.
Rai a tourism assistant at the Kangchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council, said that hoteliers are now excited about the arrival of mountaineers.
Hotelier Pema Sherpa of Faktanglung Village Municipality-6 says that the tourist activity has started increasing in the Kanchenjunga area. This year, a significant number of climbers have come to climb the mountain, ‘he said.
