July 09, Kathmandu: Renowned Nepalese climber Shambhu Tamang died at the age of 70 during ongoing treatment at a cancer hospital in Lalitpur, Nepal. He was suffering from cancer.

On May 05, 1973, along with the Italian expedition team, he climbed Mt Everest becoming the youngest person to climb Mt Everest at the age of  17 years, 6 months and 15 days. His record was broken by Tembachiri Sherpa in 2001 after 29 years. Tembachiri Sherpa climbed Everest at the age of 16.Now the youngest climber in the world is American Citizen Jordan Romero. He climbed Everest on May 10, 2010 at the age of 13 years, 10 months and 10 days.

Shambhu Tamang was also founder of Nepal Mountaineering Association. He was also working as advisor on association.

He also climbed many other mountains and worked as a trekking guide for a long time.

He had also received many awards.
