March/09/2024: Local authorities of the Everest region have eased certain restrictions to curbing luxury in the Everest base camp. The Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality local municipality of everest region has adjusted certain Base Camp Management Procedure 2024 clauses to balance conservation and expedition needs for the upcoming spring climbing season 2024.

Key changes include allowing helicopters to transport expedition supplies to the base camp with clearance from a monitoring committee. Traditional transport methods like porters and yaks are still encouraged.

The updated guidelines allocate space for dining and sleeping at the base camp and prohibit commercial activities like bars and cafes. Climbers must carry waste disposal bags, and overnight stays are restricted to specific groups.

Expedition teams can enlist necessary workers and set up limited toilet and shower facilities. Helipads are designated for rescue purposes only.

An instant check-in-out system will track climbers’ status, and teams must register essential logistics needed above the base camp. They must also bring back garbage and ensure proper disposal, with agencies responsible for recovering members’ bodies.
