April 25, Kathmandu: Takeshi Tani and Toshiyuki Yamada of Japan successfully climbed the Northwest Face of Kangchung Nup (6,090m) which is the first ascent of the mountain from its north side.

Kangchung Nup is also known as Cholo Peak, Abi, or Kangchung West which is located east of the Gokyo Glacier and lakes in the Khumbu region.

According to Yamada the weather and other conditions on the mountain were perfect. Before the push, they also checked their proposed descent line on the south side of the mountain. The mountain was very dry which reduced the risk of avalanches.

They shared some images of their climb on Social Media as well.

They have already descended to Base Camp safely.

According to Nepal Department of tourism only two climbers are permitted to climb Kanchung Nup this season.Khangchung Nup, which is also known as one of the UIAA peaks in Nepal was never scaled before from its northwest face.

According to Nigma sherpa who accompanied them to Gokyo it was a proud moment that they made it to the top of the peak for the first time using an extremely new route this season.

They summited the peak in alpine style.
