December 01, Foreign tourists have been barred from entering Sikkim from today.

Stating that the risk of a new variant of coronavirus Omicron has increased, the Sikkim government has banned the entry of foreign tourists from 6 am today (Wednesday) till December 15. The Sikkim government has taken precautionary measures to prevent the spread of Omicron in the state.

The state Home Department said in a statement on Tuesday that foreign tourists visiting Sikkim would not be issued Inner Line Permits, Restricted Area Permits, and Protected Area Permits.

The state Home Department has written to the tourism department ordering it not to allow any foreign tourists to visit Sikkim and not to issue any permits.

Sikkim is the first state in India to bar foreign tourists from entering the country.
