August 16, 2022: 26 years old French ski mountaineering champion Adèle Milloz and her unnamed friend, 30, died while climbing Mount Blanc on Friday.
According to various news reports, They were climbing toward the Aiguille summit in the Mont Blanc range of the French Alps at the time of the fall. Their bodies were discovered Friday evening. It is unclear why they fell.
They were more than 10,000ft up, traversing from Aiguille de Peigne (3,192m) to nearby peak Aiguille du Midi (3,842m). Another group of mountaineers who saw them fall, alerted about the incident. They told, they believe the women were roped together.
Adèle Milloz became junior world champion in sprint and winning gold in the same category at the Winter Military World Games in Sochi in 2017.Before leaving ski mountaineering in 2019 to become a guide, Milloz had won junior championships and joined the French team at age 15. She won the European sprint championship in 2018.
She was no longer competing at the time of her death, and had been training to become a mountain guide.
