Gokyo lakes are at an altitude of 4700 to 5000 m high in the Gokyo valley within the boundary of Sagarmatha National Park. A Gokyo lake trek is a popular, less traveled trek route with a great experience of authentic villages of sherpa with its huge group of yaks with the majestic view of Mt. Everest (8848.86m) Cho Oyu (8,201m), Mount Lhotse (8,516m) and Mt. Makalu (8,463m).
The trek begins with the thrilling flight to Lukla following the trail towards Everest base camp until Sansa, shortly from Namche Bazar following the trail with an amazing Dudh Koshi river on the left side and famous Ngozumpa Glacier.
The less-traveled alternative trail to Everest base camp gives you a lifetime experience.

Gokyo Ri Trek Itinerary
- Day 1: Arrival
After arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport. You can find the telecom desk at airport where you can get a Nepalese SIM card for your mobile phone and you can also find foriegn currency exchange where you can convert your currency in Nepalese Currency.
- Day 2: Arrangement for trekking and Kathmandu valley sightseeing
Today is optional. It’s better to make this day reserved because Kathmandu to Lukla flight may cancel due to the weather conditions.you can arrange trekking gears you can find many trekking shops at Thamel. You can also explore the Kathmandu Valley.
- Day 3: Fly to Lukla and Trek to phakding
You have to go back to Tribhuvan International Airport for a flight to Lukla . Once you reach Lukla you start your trek towards Phakding
- Day 4: Trek to phakding up to Namche bazar
You have to trek to Namche bazar this Day. Following the trail along with the dudh koshi River crossing suspension bridge passing through forest.
- Day 5: acclimate and explore at Namche Bazar
You can get acclimated at Namche bazar today. Acclimating prevents altitude sickness at higher elevations. You can also hike to Everst view point where you can get a fine amazing view of Mount Everest.
- Day 6: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Dole
Today we Follow the trail towards Dole passing through Rhododendron Forest.encountering breathtaking views of Mt AMADABLAM. Dole is the Destination for the Day
- Day 7: Trek from Dole to Machermo
After a relaxing night at Dole early in the morning following the trail uphill passing through prayer flags, Yaks grazing land you reach Machermo
- Day 8: Trek from Machermo to Gokyo
Today is the day you reach Gokyo Village. Gokyo village is the small settlement of Himalayan People at the base of Gokyo. After reaching Gokyo you will be offered an amazing panoramic views of huge mountain peaks like Cho Oyu, Mt everest, Kangchenjunga,Lhotse and Makalu
- Day 9: Trek from Gokyo to Gokyo Ri and back to Machermo
After an amazing night at Gokyo Valley you can explore the village or you can climb a Gokyo Ri for an amazing view of Mountain peaks and back to Machermo the destination for the Day..
- Day 10: Trek from Machermo to Namche Bazar
Today you head back to Namche Bazar from Namche Bazar exploring sherpa villages
- Day 11: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla
Today is the last trekking Day You follow the trail downwards to Lukla where you can Fly back to Kathmandu
- Day 12: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu
Today the entire trek ends you can stay in Lukla and explore or you can Fly back to Tribhuvan International Airport

It takes around 4 to 5 hours from Lukla to reach Phakding.

Gokyo Ri
Gokyo Ri is a peak Standing at an elevation of 5,357m. The peak is located in the Khumbu region of Nepal on the west side of Nepal’s Largest Glacier Ngozumpa Glacier.
The peak offers an amazing panoramic view of the Himalayas.
Gokyo Ri is also an alternative trek to Everest base camp. Trekkers trekking Everest three passes also visit this place.
Himalayan Tahr, Musk Deer and snow leopard are some wild animals found in this region.
