November 14, Jomsom: A massive avalanche has hit the Himalayan area above the Kowang, Larjung, and Boksi rivers in Thasang village municipality of the Mustang district. According to the District Police Office, Mustang, the avalanche occurred at around 11 am on Sunday.

According to the District Police Office, Mustang, a landslide has been reported from Manapathi Himal(6380 m) in Thasang Gapa Marthi Dhaulagiri area. According to District Police Office Inspector Ashish Adhikari, the avalanche lasted for about 30 minutes.

Due to the avalanche, locals living in Kowang, Larjung, Naurikot, Boksi Khola of Ward-2 of Thasang Gapa had to flee.Similarly, the Beni-Jomsom road was closed for 30 minutes due to the avalanche

According to the District Police Office, Mustang, the avalanche has been stopped and a six-member police team including Netra GT, in charge of Kowang Police Post, has reached the spot to inspect the incident site.

He said some teachers and students were injured in the avalanche. Around 14 yaks are missing.

Recently, natural disasters due to climate change have started happening. According to local Sojan Hirachan, the avalanche may have occurred in the Dhaugagiri area due to climate change.
