Altitude sickness is a common health problem for visitors to high-altitude destinations like Mustang, where the altitude can range from 2,800 to 4,000 meters above sea level. Symptoms of altitude sickness can range from mild to severe and can include headache, nausea, vomiting, and shortness of breath. In severe cases, altitude sickness can lead to fluid accumulation in the lungs, brain swelling, and ultimately, death.

To prevent altitude sickness, visitors to high-altitude destinations are advised to acclimatize themselves gradually by spending a few days at lower altitudes before climbing to higher elevations. They are also advised to drink plenty of fluids, avoid alcohol, and avoid over-exertion. If symptoms of altitude sickness appear, visitors are advised to descend to a lower altitude immediately and seek medical attention.

The death of Rupa Thangla is a tragic reminder of the importance of taking the necessary precautions when visiting high-altitude destinations. It is a sobering reminder that even the most experienced and healthy individuals can be affected by altitude sickness. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time.
