April 29, Kathmandu: Giampaolo Corona summited Mt Annapurna in alpine style. According to the sources, he lost contact with the base camp officials above 7,000 m while he was returning from the summit point yesterday afternoon.

He climbed Annapurna in true alpine style without using supplemental oxygen and Sherpa support. He was only using base camp services.

Other climbers who were descending the mountain noticed that Corona lost his contact at around 7,600m. After that  Base Camp manager called for a rescue helicopter.

The aerial search and rescue team established radio contact with Giampaolo Corona at around 1:00 pm today at 7,400m.he replied “I am well and don’t need any support for now,”  sources added.

He is descending towards the base camp.
