September 17, 2022: Spanish climbers Mikel Zabalza, Iker Madoz, Ekaitz Maiz, and Mikel Inoriza is trying to climb Jannu East (7,468m) which is one of the highest unclimbed peaks in the Himalaya.
They will climb in pure alpine style. They will attempt via Slovenians Vanja Furlan and Boran Pockar route, who attempted that line in 1991 and 1992. In 1992 the Slovenians reached 7,000m via a southwest-facing couloir on the upper section.
They have already reached Kathmandu. They are now preparing for trek towards Kanchenjunga region.
Mikel Zabalza wrote on Instagram “It has been 16 years since I saw this impressive mountain from the southern slopes of Kanchenjunga. At last the stars have aligned and together with @ekaitzmaiz @ikermadoz and @mikelinoriza we are going to try this fascinating summit still without ascending. The backpack is loaded with enthusiasm and motivation to live a great adventure.
Thanks to the collaborators who relieve the pocket a little”
