December 08, Kathmandu: The tourist area of Lumbini, which was hit by the pandemic, is now returning to normal. Businesses were frustrated when tourist arrivals in Lumbini were zero for a long time after the pandemic started. Some hotel operators had sold the hotel.

However, now the number of tourist arrivals in Lumbini has been increasing and this has given a message of hope, said Lilamani Sharma, General Secretary of Lumbini Hotel Association.

Secretary-General Sharma said that the government should now bring programs and plans to boost the tourism business.

“The government needs to come up with a package to extend the stay of tourists coming to Lumbini as the pandemic is receding, otherwise the tourism business will not be able to reap the benefits,” he said.

At a time when the number of tourists coming from third countries is increasing, the number of tourists coming from India is significant. Member Secretary of the Lumbini Development Fund Sanuraja Shakya said that the number of students visiting Lumbini has increased.

According to the Lumbini Development Fund, 3,000 to 4,000 tourists visit the area daily as soon as all the areas are open. The number of tourists in Lumbini has been increasing compared to the previous months, said Rajan Basnet, information officer of the fund.
