September 17, 2023: With more than 300 foreign climbers and their support teams gearing up to conquer the world’s eighth-highest peak, Mount Manaslu (8,163 meters), a remarkable feat has already been achieved. At least 14 climbers, including the renowned Nirmal Purja, also known as Nims, successfully reached the summit of Mount Manaslu this morning, marking the first ascent of the mountain in the autumn season.

Base camp sources reported that Nims Purja’s expedition team, led by Elite Expeditions, reached the actual summit of the mountain earlier today. This achievement came after a team of skilled Sherpas from Imagine Nepal Treks had prepared the climbing route up to Camp IV the day before. “A total of 14 climbers, including Nims Purja and Anna Gutu from the USA, reached the true summit,” confirmed the sources.

Nirmal Purja, renowned for completing 12 peaks without using supplemental oxygen, has plans to head to Tibet next week to attempt Cho Oyu and Shishapangma, setting yet another world record. However, it remains uncertain whether he undertook the ascent of Manaslu without supplemental oxygen on this occasion.

Up to this point, a total of 301 foreign climbers, representing 26 different teams, have been granted climbing permits to attempt the ascent of Mount Manaslu, as reported by the Department of Tourism. ‘
