March 04, Solukhumbu: In the last 15 days, more than 200 foreign tourists have visited the Khumbu region. According to the Namche office of the Sagarmatha National Park, 211 foreign tourists visited Khumbu from February 13 to 27 as the cold weather receded.
According to Bishnu Rokay, the information officer of the park, 23 foreigners from SAARC countries and 188 foreigners from other countries visited the park during the period. During the same period, 38 Nepali tourists visited Khumbu. According to the locals, tourist activities have started increasing in the Khumbu area which was deserted due to the cold weather.
Chief of the Civil Aviation Authority, Lukla, Dwarika Achhami said that the tourist activity in Khumbu has been increasing as the end of winter. He said that the number of flights and landings at Tenzing Hillary Airport, Lukla, which became leisurely in the off-season, has increased recently. According to the office, the pressure of passengers entering the airport has been high as the tourist businessmen who had gone elsewhere have started returning as soon as the tourist season started. However, it is said that the aircraft’s returning from Lukla is empty when the number of outbound passengers is very low.
