October 30, Taplejung Nepal: Climbing Kumbhakarna ( Phoktanglungma) in Taplejung Nepal has failed due to unseasonal rains last week. The ascent of Nepal’s 14th highest mountain Kumbhakarna has failed due to snowfall along with continuous rains.

A team of two American climbers who had gone climbing Kumbhakarna (7,710 m) under the Kanchenjunga Range has returned from the base camp after more than a month. According to the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council Office, the team returned after four days of incessant rains and heavy snowfall.

According to Tashi Tenzing Sherpa, tourism assistant at the council office, the team had reached the base camp of Kumbhakarna. After reaching the base camp, climbers were preparing for the ascent suddenly the heavy snowfall started.

According to him, the team returned from the base camp on Thursday as it was not possible to wait for the right time even after the rain stopped.

According to the Department of Tourism, five foreign nationals, including two Americans, have obtained permission to climb Kumbhakarna this season. According to the department, no one had taken permission to climb Kumbhakarna in the last two years of the Covid-19.

Mt Kumbhakarna is the 32nd highest mountain in the world.
