January 25, Kathmandu: A commercial route will be introduced from Nepal to climb Cho Oyu. For the first time, 10 Nepali climbers and guides have set out for the base camp to open a route from Nepal.
Ten climber guides, including Lakpa Dandi Sherpa, who has successfully climbed Mt. Everest nine times and other high mountains 34 times, are set to open the route.
Nepal Government has not issued any permits to climb Mt Cho Oyu(8,188) after 2009. The team includes Gelje Sherpa, Lakpa Dendi Sherpa, Karma Sherpa, Pam Dorjee Sherpa, Gesman Tamang, Tashi Sherpa, Tenzing Sherpa, Phuri Sherpa, Pem Tenzi Sherpa, and Bibas Sherpa along with base camp staff Chandra Bahadur Tamang, Niradwaj Tamang, Pemba Sherpa.
Despite repeated attempts to climb this mountain bordering China and Nepal, it has not been successful from the Nepal side.
The team of 10 climbers departed for Lukla today while 3 kitchen staff is already on Lukla for preparation.
