July 19, 2023: Two Nepali climbers have achieved an extraordinary milestone by successfully scaling G2 in Pakistan. Nima Rinji Sherpa, accompanied by his climbing partner Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, completed the challenging climbs of G1 and G2 in an astonishing time frame of less than 25 hours, as confirmed by Chhang Dawa Sherpa, the Expedition Director at Expedition organizing company.
Nima Rinji Sherpa, a young prodigious climber, has already made waves in the mountaineering world by accomplishing remarkable records. At the age of just 17 years, he achieved the extraordinary feat of scaling six 8,000-meter peaks. Now, he has yet again etched his name in the history books by becoming the youngest person ever to conquer G2, achieving this remarkable feat at the age of 17 years and 91 days, according to SST Director Tashi Lakpa Sherpa.
The incredible journey of Nima Rinji doesn’t end there. He has also become the youngest climber worldwide to have successfully conquered both G1 and G2. Just last spring season, Nima set another world record on Mt Everest and Lhotse by climbing double headers (two 8,000-meter peaks) at the tender age of 17 years and 35 days on May 24, completing the challenging task within a remarkable 10-hour timeframe.
His astounding achievements have caught the attention of the global mountaineering community. In 2022, Nima made history by becoming the youngest person to reach the real summit of Mt Manaslu, adding another feather to his cap.
However, Nima Rinji’s journey is far from over. He is driven by the ambitious mission of conquering all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters, and with an indomitable spirit, he now sets his sights on the remaining two peaks in Pakistan – K2 and Broad Peak. Tashi Lakpa, the SST Director, has confirmed that Nima will undertake these challenging expeditions in the current season.
