November 29:Australia’s international border, which is open to visa holders, skilled workers, and international students with both doses of the approved vaccine, will be tightened again.

Australia has temporarily suspended plans to open its borders to foreign workers and students to gather more information about the new Omicron variant, the BBC reported.

According to the Office of Prime Minister Scott Morrison, plans to reopen the border on December 1 have been postponed for two weeks, following consultations with the National Security Council and Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly on Monday.

Two international travelers from South Africa to Sydney have been placed under special surveillance and quarantined after their Omicron was verified, according to the Ministry of Health.

The new variant of the Corona, Omicron, is highly contagious, according to the World Health Organization. Scientists claim that the infection is five times more contagious than the previously spread Delta variant.

South Australia has made it mandatory for all international visitors from high-risk areas to stay in quarantine for 14 days.

In addition, Australia has decided to ban flights from nine South African countries.

Australian citizens and permanent residents from South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Esswatini, Seychelles and Malawi are barred from entering.
