April 1, Pokhara: The 20th edition of the Nepal Open Paragliding Championship recognized by the International Paragliding Umbrella Organization (FAI) will be held from April 6 to 8.
It was informed at a press conference organized by Nepal Air Sports Association in Pokhara on Thursday that preparations for the competition have started. The competition is being organized with the help of Nepal Paragliding and Hang Gliding Association and Nepal Paragliding Pilot Club, said Balram Acharya, coordinator of the competition. He informed that the competition is being organized for the preparation of the FAI International Championship, Paragliding World Cup and Pre-World Cup to be held in Nepal and Ninth National Games to be held in Pokhara. Male and female athletes will participate in four different disciplines towards the accuracy of paragliding.
The tournament, which has been postponed for two years due to corona, will be held this year and about 100 players including men and women will participate in the competition, said Krishna Bhandari, president of Nepal Air Sports Association (NA).
According to him, there are more than 60 commercial companies operating in Pokhara and around 500 paragliding pilots. It is said that the competition will be of great help in promoting tourism affected by Corona.
