A remarkable symbol of peace has been ignited in Lumbini, the sacred birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha. This emblem of tranquility is on its way to Kala Patthar the base of the world’s tallest mountain Everest, led by a team of accomplished climbers, notably Mr. Kaji Sherpa. The Peace Torch is slated to reach Kala Patthar on November 11, 2023, where it will be accompanied by the raising of Nepal’s National Flag, a ceremonial duty to be performed by the esteemed Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Mr. Sudan Kirati.
The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) is orchestrating these events as part of its grand 50th-anniversary celebration, driven by the noble purpose of raising global awareness about the detrimental impacts of climate change on Nepal’s majestic mountains, all while fostering worldwide harmony and serenity.
Dr. Lyharkyal Lama, Vice President of the Lumbini Development Trust, passed on the ceremonial lamp to the NMA team, a dedicated group consisting of Central Executive Board Member Mr. Diwas Pokhrel, Goodwill Ambassador Mr. Kaji Sherpa, and former NMA board member Mr. Shiva Bahadur Sapkota. The Peace Torch is anticipated to reach the heart of Kathmandu by the evening of November 5, 2023.
