Feb, 24,2024: Tourists are flocking to the Everest region, attracted by the majestic Everest, the world’s highest peak. After a quiet spell due to cold weather, both local and international visitors are now trickling in with the end of the February month.

The Tourist Police Office reports that around 50 to 60 foreign tourists are entering Khumbu every day, a number that’s on the rise with the end of the month. Police Constable Shankar Khatri notes the increasing foreign presence, with entrepreneurs reopening lodges and hotels in Namche Bazaar.

Local businessman Toyakumar Shrestha anticipates business growth as the region becomes more international. However, some challenges loom, such as water shortages and sparse snowfall in surrounding areas, disappointing tourists accustomed to snowy vistas. Nevertheless, the allure of Sagarmatha and its neighboring peaks like Lhotse and Nuptse, along with diverse wildlife sightings, remains a major draw for visitors. With tourist numbers picking up, Lukla Airport is witnessing heightened activity, with 10 to 12 daily flights between Kathmandu and Lukla. Additionally, tourists are opting for helicopter charters from Ramechhap for their travel convenience.
