April 23, 2024: A Japanese woman climber was critically injured this morning after a fall from Lobuche peak in the Everest region, according to expedition organizers. Da Dendi Sherpa, Managing Director confirmed that Yukie Morita was injured after tumbling from 6,100m while descending from the summit of Lobuche Peak at around 11:00 am.

Altitude Air conducted a longline rescue operation to airlift her to Kathmandu, Sherpa stated.

The incident occurred as Yukie and her guide, Dhan Bahadur Tamang, descended from the summit point. “She fell onto the other side of the peak after the climbing ropes broke,” Sherpa explained.

The longline rescue was carried out by Altitude’s Instructor Pilot, Captain Bibek Khadka, along with longline specialist Lokendra Dhami and ground crew Pasang Dawa Tamang.

She was initially taken to Feriche, then Lukla, and finally to Kathmandu for treatment this afternoon. Sherpa shared that her condition is critical.
