November 06, 2022: Due to the increase in tourists, the number of flights and landings at Tenzing Hillary (Lukla) Airport, located in the tourist area of Solukhumbu, has increased. More than 30 airplanes and more than 100 helicopters land at this airport daily.
Dwarika Achami Nepali, head of Nepal Civil Aviation Office, Lukla informed that the number of returning tourists is high as it is the middle of the tourist season. He says Tara Air, Sita Air, and Summit Airlines are flying daily.
He said that around 1,000 foreign and domestic tourists use Lukla airport daily by airplane and helicopter. Every year during this season, there are more flights at Lukla airport. Among the four airports in the Everest region Solukhumbu district, Syangboche Airport and Kangeldanda Airport are closed, while there are only a few flights at Phaplu Airport.
