May 19, 2023: An Indian Singaporean climber, Shrinivas Sainis Dattatraya, has gone missing near the South Summit of Mount Everest this afternoon. The incident occurred at approximately 8,500 meters, where Sainis was last in contact with base camp officials.

According to sources at the base camp, Sainis went missing after his last communication with the base camp officials. Despite the challenging conditions, efforts are being made to locate and rescue the missing climber.

A Sherpa guide who was accompanying Sainis successfully arrived at Camp IV at around 8:00 pm, according to sources. The guide’s safe arrival provides a ray of hope for the ongoing search and rescue mission, as the Sherpa guide may have valuable information that could aid in locating Sainis.

This incident comes shortly after another tragedy on the mountain, as earlier today, Malaysian climber Ag Askandar Bin Ampuan Yaacub lost his life while climbing Mt. Everest, which is Ninth Fatality on Everest.

The local authorities, along with rescue teams and fellow climbers, are actively coordinating search efforts to locate Shrinivas Sainis Dattatraya and ensure his safe return. They are leveraging their expertise and resources to navigate the treacherous terrain and adverse weather conditions that often pose significant challenges in search and rescue operations on Mount Everest.

According to Geljen Sherpa today there was a big avalanche at base camp from Nuptse.
