September 07,2022: According to Russian Local authorities three surviving members of a Russian tour group stranded in freezing winds on Eurasia’s highest active volcano were rescued on Tuesday, nine died during their summit attempt.

According to authorities, one of the three rescued climbers suffered frostbite on the legs and arms while the other two are in good health.

Team of 12 members, which included two guides, set off together to climb the 4,754-metre (15,597-foot) volcano Eurasia’s highest active volcano last Tuesday.

According to local media reports, the other nine group members had passed away, with at least five of them reportedly dying from falls.

Multiple attempts to land a helicopter at the volcano on Sunday failed due to strong winds and heavy cloud cover.

“They were scheduled to land at an altitude of 3,300 metres, but due to gale force winds at 30 metres per second (67 miles per hour), they failed to do so, although two attempts were made a few hours apart,” the local civil defence authority said.

The three remaining members of the group – two tourists and a guide – were rescued on Tuesday after sheltering lower down the mountain Reuters reported.
