Nov 02, 2023: In a remarkable turn of events for Nepal, the month of October witnessed an unprecedented surge in tourism, with a historic high of 117,300 foreign visitors gracing the country. This momentous milestone marks the first time Nepal has welcomed such a large number of tourists during October.

Data provided by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) reveals that, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, the total number of visitors was 113,816. The director of NTB, Maniram Lamichhane, expressed his enthusiasm about this record-breaking achievement, stating that October’s tourist influx has surpassed all previous records.

“The upward trend in tourist arrivals is indeed encouraging,” remarked Lamichhane, highlighting the resurgence of Nepal’s tourism industry to pre-pandemic levels.

The data further discloses that, in the first ten months of 2023, Nepal has hosted 899,668 visitors, reaffirming the country’s attractiveness as a tourist destination. Notably, the majority of October’s tourists were from neighboring India, accounting for 18,480 visitors.

Other prominent contributors to this tourism boom include 14,879 visitors from the United States and 8,217 from the United Kingdom. China, Australia, and Germany also contributed significantly, with 6,880, 6,075, and 5,916 tourists, respectively, choosing Nepal as their destination.
