April 16, 2024: The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has taken action against a Jordanian climber for submitting a fake photo of the Mera Peak summit. Abdul Rahim Al-Arjan’s summit certificate has been canceled following a secretariat meeting, as confirmed by Mohan Lamsal, General Secretary at NMA.

Al-Arjan deceived the NMA by providing a fabricated photo claiming he reached the 6,470-meter peak on October 26, 2023. However, after a thorough investigation, it was discovered that he never went beyond the high camp on Mera Peak.

The handling agency, Fourteen Summits Pvt. Ltd, also acknowledged Al-Arjan’s deception, stating that he fabricated the summit photo without actually reaching the top. Al-Arjan, who was a client of Adventure Magic Treks, shared a climbing permit with Fourteen Summits.

The submitted summit photo depicted different climbers than Al-Arjan’s actual ascent, leading to the annulment of his certificate. Furthermore, the expedition handling agencies have been cautioned for their negligence, according to Lamsal.
