Feb,25,2024: The Department of Immigration is about to introduce online permits for trekking routes in restricted zones, easing the process for foreign tourists.

Previously, permits for restricted zones were only obtainable through physical channels, involving paperwork and procedures. However, a recent development indicates a shift towards electronic issuance of route permits.

This move is set to benefit tourists planning to explore areas like upper Mustang, upper Dolpa, Tsum, and Nurbu Valley of Manaslu region, Simkot, Changkheli, and Namkha of Humla district, as well as the Kanchenjunga region of Taplejung. Binod Sapkota, General Secretary of the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN), highlighted the convenience this online system would offer.

TAAN President Nilhari Bastola expressed optimism about the potential increase in tourist arrivals due to enhanced facilitation.

Acting Director General of the Department of Immigration, Krishna Bahadur Katwal, emphasized the simplicity of the new system, where tourists can secure permits online through QR payments facilitated by trekking companies or personal accounts.
