October 04, 2022: According to Indias’s local news reports At least 10 people are dead in an avalanche that trapped 29 climbers on  Draupadi’s Danda-2 mountain in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district on Tuesday. A team of 34 trainee mountaineers and seven instructors from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) was caught in an avalanche while returning from the Mount Draupadi Ka Danda – II peak. As many as eight mountaineers were rescued by their team members. Ten bodies were sighted, of which four have been recovered.

Rapid, relief and rescue operations are underway by the district administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Indian Army, and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

Authorities at State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) said that the glacier snout is located at an altitude of around 3700 m. At the same time, the avalanche has taken place around Draupadi-ka-Danda at about 5,300-meter altitude.
