Jan 29, 2024: Nepalgunj Launches Scenic Mountain Flight to Revive Tourism Amidst COVID Setbacks

In a bid to rejuvenate the tourism sector hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, Nepalgunj has initiated a breathtaking mountain flight. This unique experience will take eager tourists near the Nepal-China border, offering them a mesmerizing view of the renowned Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake.

The venture anticipates attracting a substantial number of Indian tourists who, due to pandemic restrictions, had been previously unable to explore this scenic region. To test the waters, a trial flight was organized, with 38 enthusiastic Indian travelers arriving in Nepalgunj from various parts of India. They boarded a Shree Airlines flight, soaring to an altitude of approximately 27,000 feet to catch a glimpse of the majestic Mount Kailash.

Lasting 75 minutes, this novel flight presents a fresh tourism prospect for Nepal, according to stakeholders in the Nepali tourism industry. The Kailash Mansarovar yatra, which had come to a standstill due to the pandemic, had adversely impacted numerous Nepali businesses.

Before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, an estimated 12,000 tourists annually embarked on the Kailash Mansarovar yatra via Nepal. This initiative not only aims to provide a memorable experience for travelers but also seeks to revive the local economy by rekindling the once-thriving tourism industry in the region.
