January 22, 2023: Due to extreme winds and the coming snow forecast Herve Barmasse and David Göttler abandoned their attempt to climb Dhaulagiri.
They were preparing for the summit in a single alpine-style push but now they had to leave before heavy snowfall traps them in Base Camp.
They climbed the island peak to better acclimatize at high altitudes before attempting Dhaulagiri.
They had planned to wait in Base Camp until the end of January, but the weather has not given them a chance.
Climbers said “unfortunately our Dhaulagiri expedition came to an end just because the weather forecast is very bad and strong winds at about 100km per hour continuously the weather forecast has announced snowfall. so we decided to end the expedition.”
