December 23, 2022: Alex Txikon and Simone Moro are attempting Mt Manaslu (8,163 m) this winter also. Today they left for Mt Manaslu. According to sources today they headed towards Machha Khola in western Nepal.
After the unsuccessful attempt in 2021/22 winter, Alex Txikon and Simone Moro are back in Nepal for the Mt Manaslu (8,163 m) winter expedition 2022/23. The team consists of highly experienced climbers and Sherpa guides.
Climbing Manaslu during the winter can be particularly challenging due to the extreme cold and heavy snowfall.15 climbers have only summited Mt Manaslu (8,163 m) in the Winter season. Manaslu has not been summited in winter in over 20 years.
Alex Txikon is a Spanish mountaineer who has successfully climbed 11 out of 14, 8000er mountains.
Simone Moro is an Italian alpinist who has made the first winter ascents of 4 out of 14 eight-thousanders he has also summited Everest four times (2000, 2002, 2006, and 2010) is also an experienced helicopter pilot.
In 2016 Alex along with Simone Moro & Ali Sadpara became the first climbers to climb Nanga Parbat in winter.
