February 02, 2023: On the occasion of World Wetlands Day, the wetlands of the Everest region have been cleaned. The Namche Solukhumbu office of the Sagarmatha National Park cleaned plastic waste in the rivers and wetlands of the Namche area on Thursday.

Bhumiraj Upadhyay, chief conservation officer of the park, informed that the river and river areas of Furte and Namche areas were cleaned with the participation of park staff, Everest Pollution Control Committee (SPCC), Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and locals.

According to him, approximately 25 kg of plastic waste has been collected and destroyed from that area. In addition, the park also organized an awareness program about the importance of wetlands and conservation measures.

According to Namche Solukhumbu, the office of Sagarmatha National Park, about 45/50 people participated in the program.
